From a brides point of view
Booking a wedding DJ feels straightforward until you realise how much rides on it. The music sets the mood from the moment guests arrive to the last song of the night. Get it right and the evening flows effortlessly. Get it wrong and no amount of great food or beautiful flowers will save the dancefloor.
After 30 years of weddings across the North East, here’s what I’ve learned couples actually care about — and why it matters when you’re choosing who to trust with your day.
Reading the room — not just playing a playlist
Any DJ can press play. What takes experience is knowing when to bring the energy up, when to pull it back, and how to keep three generations of guests all feeling like the music is for them.
I don’t arrive with a preset set. I arrive with 30 years of instinct, a conversation with you beforehand about what you want, and the flexibility to read what’s happening in the room and respond to it in real time. If the dancefloor needs a push at 9pm I’ll give it one. If a slower moment lands better than expected I’ll lean into it.
Your guests will feel the difference even if they can’t explain why.
Your music, your story
No two weddings sound the same — and they shouldn’t. Before your day I’ll sit down with you (or chat over the phone) to go through your must-plays, your do-not-plays, and the overall feel you want the evening to have.
Some couples hand me a tight playlist and want it executed precisely. Others give me a mood and trust me to fill it. Both work. What doesn’t work is a DJ who turns up with their own agenda and plays what they feel like.
From your ceremony music to the first dance to the last song of the night, every track should feel like it was chosen for you — because it was.
The practical stuff matters too
Weddings have a lot of moving parts and the music needs to work around all of them — speeches, cake cutting, first dance, buffet opening, last orders. I coordinate with your venue team and keep an eye on the timeline throughout the night so nothing catches you off guard.
My equipment is premium RCF — the same system I use at Wynyard Hall, Lumley Castle and some of the finest venues in the North East. It’s powerful enough to fill a large room and precise enough to keep speeches crystal clear. Fully PAT-certified and backed up with spares on site, because the one thing that can’t happen is the music stopping.
One supplier, total peace of mind
I handle everything personally — from the first phone call to the last song. There’s no agency, no substitute DJ, no surprises on the day. When you book me, you get me.
That’s not the norm in this industry and it matters more than most couples realise until they’ve spoken to someone who’s been let down.
